History is one of the most popular subject choices at HIBS with four large senior classes taught by two experienced teachers. Students typically take History because they want to improve their essay and report writing skills, both of which are important for assessment during tertiary study. Students also correctly perceive that these skills are also important in the workplace where the ability to communicate well with the written word is a crucial strength. We use the fascinating stories of the past to help students to gain a better perception of how and why things happen in the present, while encouraging independent thought and lively debate.
