HIBS is more than just a school. At its heart lies a deep sense of belief—belief in God, in ourselves, and in one another. This foundation shapes every part of our school life, grounding our wairuatanga and guiding the growth of our distinct school culture. Our shared whakapapa weaving us together as a community with purpose and spirit.

Faith is a journey, not a straight path. It’s shaped by questions, challenges, and growth—and revealed not just in words, but in how we live.

We believe every young man is deeply valued by God and created with a unique purpose. We are committed to fostering hope, encouraging all students and staff to grow, and helping them realise their full potential.

We work together to create a supportive environment where people experience God’s love through seeing faith in action in our community.

Our goal is to foster both their faith and confidence, guiding them to embody the heart of Christianity—respect, love for God, and compassion for others.

CHAPEL SERVICES

Commencement Service is a traditional event for the entire school community held at the start of each year. At this service we set aside time to pray together for the individual House groups and for the school community as a whole for God’s blessing for the year ahead. The Year 7 students and their families are welcomed into the HIBS community and the Year 13 students receive their Proprietors tie.

Weekly reflections on our school values and practical Christianity occur in school assemblies. Whole school chapel services are held twice a term inclusive of Easter and Christmas.
