The creation of art is an intellectual activity. Art education plays a special role in developing the non-verbal literacies – aural, tactile and visual. Students are able to develop their capacities in perceiving, transforming, expressing and appreciating. By contributing to the development of ideas and feelings, communication, self-esteem and higher-order thinking, students are helped to find their place and identity in their world and understand the relationship they have with global society through art.

Study of the Visual Arts also fosters a sense of personal and communal identity, an appreciation and respect for one’s own and other cultures and societies. It is an important avenue for the expression of feelings, beliefs and emotions.

Visual Art provides a substantial area of recreational and employment opportunity. Careers which use analytical, creative, co-operative, entrepreneurial and problem-solving skills are enhanced through learning in the arts.
