The Social Sciences Department at Hutt International Boys' School embraces the teaching of core curriculum Social Studies (Years 7-10) and the optional subjects of Geography, History and Classics (Years 11 -13).

The department contributes heavily to the Internationalisation aspect of the school's special character through such activities as the ASIAWISE Competition, hosting of Japanese and Chinese teachers in our classrooms and teaching and learning about Asia and the Pacific Rim.

The Department also provides key opportunities for students to take part in the International Certificate Programme by organising Model United Nations, Student CHOGM's and essay competitions.
