Junior Science
The year 7, 8 and 9 courses have developed using the Science Curriculum document (Level 3 to 5). These have been designed to stimulate the curiosity of the students and cultivate their observational skills. They are introduced to the scientific equipment and are instructed in their safe and correct use. The scientific method is introduced in year 7 and put into action during the following years. All year 7 and 8 students participate in the school science fair and some are chosen to compete in the Wellington Science fair.
The year 7 and 8 students take part in a 2 year programme consisting of 30 activities which aim to develop the thinking skills of the students within the context of Science.
The year 9 students are involved in a similar modular course but with more advanced thinking skills required.
The year 9 students gain the relevant background information required and sharpen their increasing observation skills, problem solving and research skills in readiness for the Level 1 NCEA exams at the end of year 10.
