Two courses are offered in Year 13
Mathematics with Calculus
Prerequisites: 18 credits in Level 2 Mathematics with at least achievement in all of 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3 and achievement in at least two of 2.4, 2.7 and 2.9. Variations from this will be at the discretion of the HOD.
Course Content: This course is appropriate for students with an interest in the continued study of Mathematics, the physical sciences, engineering, or any field in which analysis is an important tool. This course will be assessed against the National Achievement Standards with credits gained towards NCEA Level 3. There are six main areas of study covered in this course: Differentiation, Integration, Differential equations, Algebra, Trigonometry and Geometry.
Statistics and Modelling
Prerequisites: 18 credits in Level 2 Mathematics.
Course Content: The aim of this course is to provide a course of mathematics study appropriate for students interested in quantitative aspects of the biological and social sciences, medicine, commerce and administration, and in general any field where the collection, analysis and interpretation of quantitative data is important. This course will be assessed against the National Achievement Standards with credits gained towards NCEA Level 3. There are seven areas of study covered in this course: Time Series, Confidence Intervals, Probability, Equations, Bivariate Data Investigation, Probability Distributions and Curve Fitting.
